City, Coast & Country – a 20 day photography discovery tour

from $2,900.00

The city, coast and country tour incorporates some of the very best locations for photography in Bangladesh and gives the traveller a genuine feel for this incredible country.

From the metropolis of Dhaka, the quiet beauty of rural farmland and wetlands, the serenity of the Ganges and river islands, the hill tracts  with its tribal people, to Cox’s Bazar – the longest unbroken beach on earth and the peace and calm of rolling green tea estates in Syhlet.  This tour has so much to offer the adventurous traveller.

Our photography tour starting place is the mega city of Dhaka, with its constant buzz of people and tangle of traffic – a melange of colour, sights and sounds – there’s always plenty going on here to delight the photographer.

Heading north west we travel through farmlands to Tangail, visiting weavers villages, markets and the Jamuna river bank.  Moving on to Bogra – a major city in Rajshahi division renowned for its archaeological sites.  Bogra hosts the largest vegetable markets your’e ever likely to see, and to the Sariakandi River islands, passing the banks of the Jamuna river, covered in a patchwork of red – chillies drying in the sun!  Continuing our journey north west through serene wetland countryside to Rajshahi, a rich agricultural area in the Ganges basin.

Changing direction we head south to Khulna, the third largest city in Bangladesh to experience the centuries old tradition of otter fishing and visit the sixty-domed mosque.  On to the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world and home to a multitude of wildlife, including the endangered Bengal tiger.

Next we journey north east via Dhaka to Sylhet – an area known for its natural beauty.  On route we visit rice processing plants and brick factories and once in Sylhet visit the mighty Surma river, local markets and more.  After Sylhet we visit Jaflong and Lalakhal on the Indian border to experience stone collection activities from the crystal clear vivid blue/green water of the River Dawki.  Turning south again we travel to Srimangal, an area of natural beauty with its lush green tea estates, wetlands, rainforests and tribal people.

We farewell Srimangal and head due south to the city of Chittagong – the second largest city in Bangladesh.  Highlights here include fishing villages, fish markets and ship breaking yards – a graveyard where large ships and container vessels that have ended their seafaring days are painstakingly broken up by hand.

And for our final two locations we continue south to Cox’s Bazar, renowned for its 120km long sandy beach, and south east to the beauty of the hill tracts district of Bandarban.  Fish markets, fishing villages, seaside villages, salt processing plants, markets, tribal life and not to be missed – known as the tourist capital of Bangladesh – beach at Cox’s Bazar.

This tour will allow travellers to marvel at the rich tapestry of Bangladesh: It’s ancient buildings, rainforests, rice paddies, tea estates, celestial mountain areas and its cities teeming with people and traffic.  Understated beauty and the warmth of the Bangladeshi people await you.
