Dhamrai is a sub district within the Manikganj district; and is located 45 kilometers north west of Dhaka. This tour is ideal for those who are interested in seeing the local life and know more about the artisans of Bengal. Dhamrai is predominantly a Hindu village with a few surviving metal craft workshops.  The methods and skills utilised in making the brass and other metal pieces date back two thousand years.

The main area is a busy market street, but also contains many extravagant century-old houses built by the wealthy Hindu families who once lived there.

Dhamrai is an excellent place to experience the Hindu festival of Rath Jatra (every June or July) according to the calendar.

A visit to Dhamrai provides a rewarding and unusual day trip from Dhaka, and you will also see first-hand, the daily life in the surrounding villages where pottery is made.  With lots of handmade items available you’ll come away with some beautiful metal crafts and pottery products to remind you of this special days outing.

You will be collected from your location in Dhaka at approximately 7.00 am and will drive to Dhamrai.  The journey will take one and a half hours, depending on traffic conditions.  Upon arrival you will take a short and pleasant boat ride to the pottery village (about 30 minutes).  Next you will explore the village and surrounding area (approx 1.5 hours) before continuing the journey to Dhamrai Bazar to visit the metal craft workshops.  Here you will experience artists making their products and have this age old process explained.   After this you will visit the display centre and be able to purchase the unique items you have witnessed being made.  Lunch will be arranged at a local restaurant, after which we begin our return journey to Dhaka.  On the return journey we will stop at the National Memorial at Savar, a remarkable tapering structure some 50 metres high symbolising the sacrifice of the three million martyrs in the struggle for independence. We will also stop at Jahangirnagar university campus, famous for it natural beauty.  A visit here during winter will reward you with the sight of thousands of migratory birds in the lakes of this campus.  Arrival back in Dhaka will be at approximately 4.00 pm.
