Itinerary 

Day1: We take the morning train to Rajshahi in the northern division of Bangladesh.  This journey will take approximately 7 hours.  Rajshahi is famous for its silk production and in the afternoon we will visit one of the silk factories.  After this we drive to the iconic River Ganges where we’ll enjoy the spectacular sunset from her banks.  Overnight stay at Hotel Nice International, Rajshahi.

Day2: After breakfast we leave Rajshahi and travel to Bogra.  En route to Bogra we will visit two significant attractions.  The first stop will be to visit the charming town of Puthia – renowned for the largest number of historically important Hindu structures in Bangladesh.  The Govinda Temple, decorated with intricate terracotta designs, is in one of the best old Rajbari’s courtyard.  Our second stop will be in Natore, and here we will visit two of the most outstanding Rajbari’s in the country.  Natore Rajbari is one of the oldest landlord houses in the country.  Later we will continue our journey to Bogra.  Bogra is a district town in north Bangladesh.  On arrival in Bogra you will be checked into your hotel – Hotel Naz Garden.  Having had some time to settle we may go for a short walk, followed by dinner in the town.  Overnight stray in Bogra.

Day3: Today we drive to Sariakandi for a full day excursion to the river island in the Ganges River. We will explore the rural areas, affording you a better understanding of life in this unique area.  A packed lunch will be arranged for you today.  The journey time today will be between 3 and 4 hours.  Return to Bogra.  Overnight stay at Hotel Naz Garden, Bogra.

Day4: After breakfast we check out from the hotel and leave Bogra, bound for Paharpur Buddhist Monastery.  En route we will visit one of the oldest archaeological sites in Bangladesh – Mahasthangarh – located 12 kms from the town of Bogra.  Mahasthangarh dates back to at least the 3rd century BC.  Over the centuries the site was home to Muslims, Hindus and most importantly Buddhists.  The Buddhist Pala emperors of North Bengal ruled this region from the 8th to the 11th centuries, and it is from this period that most the visible remains belong.  The rural setting here is very peaceful and makes for a most pleasant outing.  Continuing our journey we travel 50 kms to Paharpur where we visit the Somapur Vihara.  Dating from the 8th century AD Somapur Vihara is considered the most impressive and important archaeological site in Bangladesh, and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  It was once the largest Buddhist monastery south of the Himalayas.  We complete the last leg of our journey today as we return to Dinajpur, around 100kms by road.  The entire journey time today being approximately 6 hours.  Upon arrival in Dinajpur you will be checked into your hotel.  Later, and if time permits we will visit another local landlord house.  Overnight stay at the Parjatan Motel in Dinajpur.

Day5: This morning, after checking out from the hotel we will take a short 20 km drive to Kantanagar.  Here we will visit the magnificent Kantajew Temple.  Set amid striking countryside the vault-roofed temple is one of the most stunning examples of Hindu monuments in Bangladesh.  It’s superb surface decoration, with infinite panels of sculpted terracotta plaques depict both figurative and floral motifs.  The result of the masterful and intricate work of the folk artists who created these panels is that of a richly embroidered patchwork of Bangladesh society, culture and mythology.  After this we drive to Saidpur airport (a distance of 32 kms) to catch the afternoon flight to Dhaka.  Upon arrival in Dhaka you will be transferred to your hotel after which you will have the remainder of the day free, though further activities can be arranged if desired.  Overnight stay  in Dhaka.
